Introduction to R and Bioconductor

Dates

26th, 28th May and 5th, 6th June 2025

To foster international participation, this course will be held online

Course overview

This course provides an introduction to R and Bioconductor, focusing on data manipulation, visualization, and analysis in life sciences. It covers fundamental R programming concepts, data processing with the tidyverse, and essential Bioconductor data structures for handling genomic data. By the end of the course, participants will gain hands-on experience in using R for biological data analysis and visualization.

This beginner-friendly course is ideal for students and researchers looking to integrate R and Bioconductor into their bioinformatics workflows.

Target Audience

- No prior experience with R or Bioconductor is required.
- Participants should install R and RStudio before the course.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

1) Navigate RStudio and manage projects for efficient data analysis.
2) Understand R data structures (vectors, data frames) and perform data subsetting.
3)  Use the tidyverse ecosystem for data importing, cleaning, and manipulation.
4)  Create publication-ready plots using ggplot2 and arrange multiple visualizations.
5) Utilize Bioconductor packages to work with genomic data structures.
6)  Analyse and manage quantitative biological data with SummarizedExperiment and other Bioconductor object classes.
